THIS PAGE PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE 2024 THEMES AND ISSUES OF Faith & Fitness Magazine AND THE OTHER LIFESTYLE MEDIA GROUP MAGAZINES.

Hardcore fitness can be all of those cliche images: really heavy weights, a strict diet, daily exercising, thorough knowledge, dripping sweat and relentless pushing. It can also be a mom sharing a moment with her daughter while working out together at home. It’s about being under God’s influence so you can be the influence on others. It’s the passion and purpose that continually shines through. Hardcore is fueled by a Spirit-free mindset. And – it’s an eagerness to go where “what’s next” calls you. 2024 is your year to go hardcore.

AUTUMN 2024

Mindset: Spirit-Free

August, September, October 2024

Happy Birthday! Once each year, all of us have that day. Some, like the children’s story character, Eeyore have a mindset that is pessimistic even dark: “Go and enjoy yourself. We can’t all and some of us don’t. I’ll stay here and be miserable.” The world is eager to tell you: It’s too difficult – you can’t afford the cost – come back to earth – it’s impossible. How do you overcome? Planning for success, positivity, determination, hard work, and mindfulness are buzzwords for having a self-directed (and thus self-limited) mindset. The routines of life can be a ball and chain. Nobody wants, “same thing – different day” to become, “my whole life has been filled with disappointments, meaningless … a lie”. But, until God is at the center of your lifestyle, everything you believe, value and do – everything you are falls short.

For all of us tired of the mundane, who want to see beyond this world’s myopic best, grab hold of Spirit-free. God is munificent, generously giving you grace, love, joy, vision and resources. God’s spirit defies definition. Only God can build you stronger than your fitness, take you further than your travels, grow you deeper than your purpose and get you spiritually out beyond the limits of limitless.

Explore all 4 of the autumn 2024 magazines from Lifestyle Media Group and let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus – That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you!

WINTER 2024

What’s Next

November, December 2024 – January 2025

It’s not a question –

It’s an opportunity, plan, strategy, calling, responsibility, lifestyle and eternal game changer.

Come on you know how things can get stagnate. David in the Bible wrote about it. In Psalms he prays to God, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” The package deal is: Go to church, say a prayer, get saved, get baptized, and thennnnn… show up every Sunday you can (at least Christmas and Easter) so you can sing and be inspired, maybe if you’re gutsy pick one of those easy-to-do get-involved volunteer activities and try your hand at communion. Whatever the case definitely give money regularly. Yeah, you know it and that’s why you know people find things like fitness, travel, gardening and outdoor activities to be more engaging and satisfying. And – often they (and we) find community in those activities too. But, until God’s at the center of your lifestyle, the package deal and the passions you find to pursue – they’re all narcissism – your preoccupation with your own needs.

What’s Next is the shift God is calling each of us to make from “what are you going to do for me today” to “make me a tool of your mercy and power”. It’s exercising your faith and intentionally helping others learn how they can workout their own faith in responsive obedience. It’s going to beautiful and exciting places that become even more beautiful and exciting because they’re destinations where the people you encounter get to encounter God – with you. It’s experiencing with others how God is in the wonder and aroma of growing real fresh food – where homesteading transforms from self-sufficiency into being at home with God. It’s the rugged nature of God you invite the awestruck outdoor adventurer to hear, see, smell and understand.

Ready to go for it and be hardcore? If you’ve been wanting to seek God in how to get from here to … way over beyond there, then the 4 winter 2024 Lifestyle Media Group magazines focusing on What’s Next are for you.

Be part of this issue by contributing an article, picture, video, skills and more. Learn about advertising, sponsorship, giving and sharing this magazine community with others.

The new year often jumpstarts people’s interest in healthy eating and exercise. But by the end of January, well intended resolutions fade. A Virginia church was host to an event to help women renew their passion for healthy living.

On January 27 and 28, 2023 Salem Baptist Church in Manakin Sabot, Virginia welcomed national speaker Annette Reeder, The Biblical Nutritionist for the Biblical Wellness Conference. Reeder, with over 238,000 followers on You Tube, anchored the conference, along with faith-focused fitness instructors from Body and Soul and worship music from Lark10.

Women’s ministry leader, Terri Scarola, said, “Annette was secured for this event because I trust she will use the Word of God to promote healthy lives. Her teachings are grounded on both science and Scripture. When I asked if she was going to share a list of rules, her response was encouraging.” Reader shared, “I never give anyone an ‘Eat This/Don’t Eat This’ list because ultimately, people’s beliefs affect their behaviors.”

Admission to the Biblical Wellness Conference was extremely affordable. The price included three food and fellowship times, an (optional) full aerobic workout with Body and Soul on Saturday morning, door prizes, and a healthy living swag bag.

Brad Bloom, Publisher of Faith & Fitness Magazine says, “I applaud the team of organizers for bringing this event together for the greater Richmond, Virginia community. This is the kind of education and fellowship that can easily be happening at churches throughout our country. It makes a difference in lives and demonstrates to the public the important and compassionate role Christians have in cities throughout America.”

Publisher’s Note: Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Steven L. Berry serves as the Spiritual Fitness and Wellness Director for Three Rangers Foundation. This foundation provides the US Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment and veterans of affiliated supporting units the best experts, advice, and assistance in every aspect of the transition journey; spiritual, physical, behavioral, employment, financial, legal, family, and education.

Faith & Fitness Magazine supports the Three Rangers Foundation and the work of Steven Berry in helping Rangers to become physically and spiritually stronger.

I encourage you and your friends to get involved with them initially via their Three Rangers Foundation Virtual Mog Mile Event and then continue your involvement with them by regularly praying for them and connecting directly with Steven to make yourself available to Rangers in your community as both a workout partner and a Christian friend.

In the late Summer of 1992, then-President Bill Clinton deployed a Special Operations Task Force (Task Force Ranger) to Mogadishu, Somalia, to capture Somali warlord Mohammed Farah-Adid. The bulk of that Task Force was composed of American Rangers from the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. On 3-4 October 1993, Task Force Ranger became embroiled with Somalia militiamen in an overnight gun battle. The intensity of it was likened, at the time, to the most intense firefights in Vietnam. (This story is captured and told in Mark Bowden’s best-selling book, “Blackhawk Down,” as well as in the major motion picture, by the same name.)

On the afternoon of 3 October 1993, Task Force Ranger boarded Army helicopters for what was expected to be a “textbook” raid to capture two of Adid’s lieutenants. Using rocket-propelled grenades, Somalia militiamen shot down two US Blackhawk helicopters. That turned a planned raid into an unexpected rescue mission. Driving that change of mission was the galvanized commitment of American Rangers to “never leave a fallen comrade.”

When the US and Pakistani relief convoy arrived on the morning of 4 October to relieve the battered Ranger force and return them to the Mogadishu Olympic Stadium, there was only enough room in the armored vehicles for the dead and severely wounded. The walking wounded and the few unscathed Rangers would move from the helicopter crash site to the Olympic Stadium on foot – a distance of about a mile – all the while still under attack from rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. At the end of the battle, 18 Americans were dead and 73 were wounded, and one was captured. To those moving by foot on the morning of 4 October, that relatively short but lethal distance between the helicopter crash site and the Olympic Stadium became known as “The Mogadishu Mile.”

THE RANGER CREED – GOALS AND CHOICES

The American Ranger is unique in American military history with roots dating to Benjamin Church during “King Philip’s War (circa 1675). Trained in Northern Ireland and Scotland by British Commandos during World War II, the new American unit was quick to adopt a name already steeped in American historical significance: Rangers. From North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany, and the South Pacific, the name “Ranger” became closely associated with an ironclad commitment to excellence.

Modern Rangers subscribe to an ethos that is captured in a six-stanza document called “The Ranger Creed.” Memorized and internalized from Day One as a Ranger, the Ranger Creed is at once aspirational and inspirational, providing the vision to always aim for the highest goals, as well as shaping the will to seek self-betterment daily. From dawn to dusk, the Ranger Creed stands to inform and shape the life choices of Army Rangers.

For Task Force Ranger in the streets of Somalia on those deadly days in October 1993, the Ranger Creed was on full and panoramic display. Uncommon valor quickly became a common attribute, and utter selfless sacrifice for others was plain for all to see. “I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy, and under no circumstances, will I ever embarrass my country” (5th stanza of the Ranger Creed) forced them, with no second thoughts, to move to the helicopter crash sites. “Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight . . .” (3rd stanza of the Ranger Creed) motivated them to prepare beforehand for the fight that would surely come, and when it did, to fight like Furies for one another. This was the Ranger Creed in operation for Task Force Ranger.

ENERGETIC VISION – UNWAVERING COMMITMENT

Following their service as members of Task Force Ranger, some of its members determined to provide an opportunity for fellow Ranger Veterans to move beyond the streets of Mogadishu, empowering them to achieve lifelong success. From their energetic vision came Three Rangers Foundation (threerangersfoundation.org), a non-profit organization (501 (c) 3.) aimed at providing the best experts, advice, and assistance in every aspect of the transition journey to civilian life, whether it be spiritual, physical, behavioral, financial, or vocational.

With this mission in full view, Three Rangers Foundation is proud to host, from September 4 through October 4, its annual commemoration of the gallant men of Task Force Ranger and the original “Mogadishu Mile,” or, simply, “The MOG MILE.” All proceeds (registration fees, t-shirts sales, etc.) go directly toward enabling Three Rangers Foundation to assist Ranger Veterans, who are transitioning from life in the 75th Ranger Regiment to return to civilian life as valuable and productive citizens; citizens who will bear the same unwavering commitment to excellence as always.

The 2021 Fitness Ministry Awards were presented at redefined – a faith and fitness conference in-person gathering in San Antonio, Texas, October 28, 2021 co-located with the Athletic Business Show. THE FORM BELOW WAS USED TO SUBMIT A CANDIDATE FOR CONSIDERATION.

Use this link to view the 2021 Fitness Ministry Awards program on Facebook LIVE.

Fitness Ministry Awards are given to businesses, ministries and organizations that demonstrate the following qualitIes:

  • attentiveness and innovation
  • clarity of purpose and mission
  • humility
  • all-in commitment
  • deliver big-as-God results

These five qualities are described more fully below. Anyone can nominate from one of the following candidate categories to be considered for a Fitness Ministry Award by using the form below. Candidates categories are:

  • a church fitness ministry large or small
  • a gym
  • personal training service
  • studio fitness
  • school or university
  • community organization
  • health/wellness provider
  • recreational facility/group
  • online community
  • entreprenuer
  • individual or volunteer

ATTENTIVE AND INNOVATIVE

Fitness ministries that make a difference in today’s culture pay attention to the unique (often local) needs of the people around them. These fitness businesses also pay close attention to God, getting direction that exceeds business strategies and profit motives. They drill down deeper and find opportunities to show God’s grace, compassion and strength to all but frequently those who are underserved by the majority of the fitness industry. They develop and introduce ideas and solutions that pioneer new standards and redefine how fitness can be done.

CLARITY

This attention and innovation leads to a clear focus to impact lives daily and also foster (often aggressively) forward-thinking plans well into the future. Their daily drive is contagious spiritual gumption fueled by a strong confidence in God. Fitness ministries need the ability to be unwavering in the convictions and demonstrate a high level of tenacity to reach for and grab hold of the ever increasing potential that God produces.

HUMBLE

Perhaps the greatest strength great fitness ministry have is their ability to have humility. They recognize that the most important place to stay is in a place of following God’s lead. They aren’t shy in what they do and how they do it, rather they subject their decisions, actions, business practices, public relations and logic to the divine guidance of God’s Spirit. Greater success for these businesses continually cultivates deeper spiritual obedience. The public impact is profound and compelling thus directing attention toward Christ.

ALL-IN

Exemplary fitness ministries grab hold of intangible skills to shape new realities. They invest to a level far beyond where others stop. Challenges quickly and consistently become their best tools for resilience. Their enthusiasm sets the pace for tremendous capacity building. For these ministries this all-in spirit leaves no room for reservations. Instead they become the conduit for God to release creative momentum and life giving hope.

BIG AS GOD RESULTS

These fitness ministries have a bottom line that ultimately defies the normal scope of high producing outcomes. They’ve ventured into a level of effectiveness that moves the human spirit to long for and find new definitions in high performance. Their faith-equity invested in the lives of others drives new standards in measurables. These organizations strengthen all of us with a greater ability to comprehend the greatness of God.

When it comes to fitness we all know that for many people a resolution to get fit can be a short lived pledge – a commitment that however well-intentioned doesn’t last for long and has limited impact. Moreover, when it comes to faith it’s all too common to see people go to church for Christmas and Easter only. The once-a-year effort is commendable but …

Consistency isn’t only better, it breeds growth, results AND a deeper faith in God. Being frequent in doing good not only helps others, it strengthens you. This is true with physical fitness, spiritual formation, human relations and in stewardship  (the supervising and taking care of your relationship with yourself, God and others). Character strength is built as you are actively part of #GivingTuesday(s)

YOUR TOOL TO BE IN SHAPE FOR THE GOOD WORK

How Fit Is Your Mind?

February/March 2020

I’ll never lose the weight. It hurts so bad. Why should I try, I’ll never win. I’m ugly, nobody really likes me. — What are the conversations you should be having with God? — right now! Sever depression, chronic pain, hopelessness and social isolation are leading factors that affect people physically, emotionally and spiritually and contribute to the growing number of suicides. Sure, a good workout can release endorphins and group exercise can be a great way to engage with others. But when you’re all alone the loud voice inside your mind is persistent to destroy the good work God has begun in you. It’s time to learn how to avoid injuries and how to be the spiritual spotter for those trying to lift an incredibly heavy burden. Beyond positivity, open your mind to a greater fitness through faith.

Filthy Grace

April/May 2020

The guy on the treadmill next to you stinks — He literally stinks! Maybe the only thing filthier than his gym clothes are the conversations you overhear from the women in group exercise. At least your life’s all Downy fresh. Nice job. No? When we inject Botox into our Facebook posts our lives may look wrinkle free but we all know that dirt we hide is real. The higher we esteem ourselves the lower we go. Life’s going to get gross before it gets glorious. We humbly submit to you a totally righteous plan.

1 set of reps

June/July 2020

How heavy and how many? Time to reengineer our thinking and introduce a better approach to making significant gains. Do one thing well – over and over again. You can do so much with so little. You’re uniquely made for a very special purpose. Quit trying to be in control. Just work hard and help the weak. All you really need to do is be faithful and have good form. Once you’ve done 70×7 just keep going – like for forever. When you give it all, God will bless beyond your wildest dreams.

Both fitness and faith begin with desire – a strong compulsion for something more. With some effort you can discover the joy of consistency. Beyond your limits lies devotion, when you’re “all in”! It’s time to add to the relentless commitment to a healthy diet and the insane determination to train. Obsession blows up to a whole new level when you give your life totally over to God. Being in the top 1% is nothing compared to this.

ACCOUNTABILITY > atrophy

December 2020/January 2021

“Out with the old and in with the new” is a disposable consumer mentality. It’s easy to squander your focus, values and energy by being the consumer of good intentions, group consensus and playing life in safety mode. It’s a guaranteed plan for spiritual atrophy – a wasting disease far worse than deteriorating muscles. Instead, don’t get fatigued doing good – work for the benefit of all. In your life and for your community appreciate challenges, celebrate experience and continually pursue more. Be a citizen deeply connected to your community through faithfulness, patient endurance and righteousness. Submit your will to God and be the nourishment others need.

The practice of bringing together faith and fitness is nothing new. However in popular culture and the Christian community there has been limited coverage of news and best practices. The result is an even greater limited understanding of how to effectively integrate the two.

I know you’ll find these examples encouraging and insightful. AND I hope they’ll inspire you to consider how you can create your own story by doing faith and fitness in your community and being the life of Christ to others.  We (I and a huge network of professionals) are here to support you. How Old Are You? Intergenerational Fitness

February/March 2019

Ask children their age and they’ll answer by holding up fingers. Ask adults and you’ll likely make them uncomfortable. We’ve all heard that age is a state of mind – you can have a positive attitude at any age. But, God wants you to have much more so that you can physically and spiritually influence other generations. How old are you? You’re the perfect age for doing exactly what needs to be done.

Put Fitness In Its Place

April/May 2019

Where are you going with your fitness? Life well organized without God gets messy. We’re not just talking goals, outcomes and maintaining life balance. Take control of your destiny and you confine your spirit. You’re invited to take this lifestyle to new destinations. Go ahead, get outdoors, find a foreign culture, be different and find your place in the adventure God has for you.

In The Flesh

June/July 2019

Put down your phone, engage face-to-face with a human, cultivate genuine relationships, and then invest deeply with passion and without reserve. Fitness is having the faith to do real good living WITHOUT an app. It’s your body. Make it fit for God’s use. Be present in the lives of your family, friends and that someone you encounter today that needs to experience God in the flesh.

The Strong God Within You

August/September 2019

Make the shift from posting and boasting “I can do anything” to humbly praying “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Get your motivational mantras right so that you can tap into the real supernatural strength of God and then stay connected with it. Don’t serve the gods of obsession. Don’t go to a narcissistic church unless you want to be weak. The culture of ‘on demand’ demands more than you realize. The Spirit’s value can’t be monetized. Get these strong truths deep inside you and you’ll make real gains.

Let’s all set fitness goals but more importantly nurture faith in the daily process. See what could be driving your outcome-based decision-making. Get a taste of jacked-up high performance. Discover the ultimate measurables. You want results? God delivers. It’s time for you to invest and also deliver with real results as you gain the highest yields in faith-equity.
